Twitter CEO Dick Costolo showed how the company’s native photo-sharing service will look and work at D9 today.

“We now are providing a native photo-sharing experience. We’ll be rolling it out over the next few weeks,” Costolo said.

The service had been expected and is a somewhat overdue move for the company.

Some details: The photo experience is on the Web for now and will be extended to mobile clients. Photos are hosted by partner Photobucket, and mobile carriers will help Twitter dumbphone users send pictures to their accounts via text message.

Twitter head of product Jack Dorsey (who will be speaking in a later session) posted a description to the Twitter blog. The company is also launching an improved version of its search that will include photo and video results.
