First Film By Google Glass Signals Good Things To Come

This article is more than 10 years old.

Thank Google Glass for giving us some new insights about Diane von Furstenberg.

Last week the 62-year-old designer sent Google's high-tech spectacles down the runway during her Spring 2013 runway show. Models wore white and pink glasses that filmed as they walked, and the footage was used in the video above, along with excerpts von Furstenberg shot herself.

The quality of the Google Glass cameras seems decent. Better yet, the short documentary they filmed gives us new information about von Furstenberg, whom Forbes ranks as the 33rd most powerful woman in the world. Did you know she tapes a gold coin in the bottom of her shoe before each runway show? Her father carried gold coins in his sock during the war, so she does it in memory of him. Also, the lady uses a Bentley Mulsanne for her wheels around town. Plush.

But back to the glasses: They're lightweight, user-friendly (the models loved them backstage), and already generating plenty of buzz. Google's obviously working hard to keep them front of mind before their launch to a limited number of testers early next year.

The technology is likely to be upgraded before Google Glass is available for regular consumers, but it's helpful to know it's headed in the right direction. Click the video above to see for yourself.
